Years ago, when I first started running, a friend of mine, who was an avid runner, said,” Run until you feel good.” The reason that he mentioned that is because a lot of people when they start running, and even people who have been at it for a while, find that the beginning of a run doesn’t necessarily feel all that great, and as he put it, “it’s because your body’s getting rid of all the junk in your system.”
I think it’s a great metaphor for why people often give up when they are starting something new, whether it’s a hobby, or pastime, or something else.
The reason is that we’re often not very good at something that we begin, and we get discouraged and we stop, before really getting to the part that’s enjoyable.
I think you’ll find with a little determination and a little persistence, and the awareness that pushing past that point where it doesn’t feel good is worthwhile, you’ll find that on the other side of that, things feel very good indeed.
