Back in the day, my older brother, Robbie, was a DJ at the Dickinson College Student Radio Station, and while doing dedications for a love song one day, he was reading through the dedications.
You know, Jeremy loves Melissa, Margie loves Ed, and then he said, “And me, I love chocolate.” If you knew my brother, you knew the things that he loved like chocolate – a good cigar, a nice pen, and great conversations.
Knowing what somebody else loves makes us feel connected to that other person.
I believe also knowing and being aware of what we love connects us more with ourselves, and I also believe that if you’re having not so great a day, that doing something that you love, interacting with something that you love, can be an antidote to that.
So, the next time you’re not feeling so hot, try writing with your favorite pen, having a cup of coffee from your favorite mug, or do what Robbie would have done, have some chocolate.
