Somebody was complaining to my father about a friend who was disappointing them quite a bit over a pretty long period of time. My father listened to all the examples they gave and considered it for a bit and then said three words, “Find another friend.”
It was an example of my father’s purely logical approach to most problems in life.
He didn’t mean that they should ditch the bad friend, he just meant that there’s an abundance of people in the world, this person hadn’t yet met, and they might find better friends out there.
For me, the takeaway was that often times we will spend a lot of time trying to fix something that is broken. When it’s possible that out in the universe, there are other alternatives that will work really well.
