A friend of mine has a magnifying glass with a beautiful carved gemstone handle on it. She told me it belonged to her aunt who she loved very much, and to remind her of her Aunt, she keeps it on her desk. She told me that she uses it every day.
I’m reminded of an old golf club that belonged to my grandfather and although I do not golf, he was an avid golfer and I’ve had it in my office for years.
It reminds me of him in so many ways, not just his love of golf, but it’s also a reminder for me that although I’m not a materialistic person, the physical reminders, the mementos that we have of people who were dear to us and are no longer here, can provide quite a bit of comfort, and honestly for me, joy. Having something that belonged to my grandfather makes me feel really good.
If you have something that reminds you of a loved one who’s no longer with us, I hope that it’s something that you can see every day to remind you of the people who meant so much to you.
