I heard a song I liked the other day and went to buy the album that the song is on, and when I got to the website where it was being sold, you could only buy it on a CD or a vinyl album, and I thought this was really interesting.
The artist was not making a digital version of it available. It made me realize that the artist, although I don’t know what their reasoning was behind this, may have wanted this to only be heard in a certain way, sort of like a chef who’s prepared an elegant dessert to be served in a crystal goblet and not a plastic cup.
The other thing is I had to wait for this to arrive in the mail and although I had it the next day, the anticipation made me treat the CD differently than if I had just instantly downloaded it.
There was something important about anticipating something and I guess in life not everything that’s fast is necessarily good. We often associate speed with it being a good thing, but there was something about waiting for the music CD to arrive in the mail that made me appreciate it that much more.
